Improved connectivity through digital hub

Digital Hub

Wairoa’s digital hub is yet another component of the Wairoa District Council’s goal to improve the district’s connectivity.

Growing digital capability is a cornerstone of the local Council with the Digital Hub made possible through a $400,000 Provincial Growth Fund investment.

The hub, which is nearing completion, is based in the Wairoa library and will complement the technological advancements the library facility is already making.

Council is currently looking for the right person to manage the digital hub with skills facilitation, and solid ICT knowledge key attributes.

The hub will feature 12 computers and deliver a range of workshops.

Wairoa District Council chief executive Steven May said the hub will respond to the community’s needs and requests which, particularly in this post COVID period, are ever changing.

“The library already delivers some IT services and the hub will take this to the next level.

“As a key part of our Library, it will be a place where everyone is welcomed to come learn, connect and share.

“This facility will improve local access to the world of technology and has been delivered at no cost to local ratepayers.

“This is a fantastic initiative for Wairoa and I am proud of the work that has been done by Council contractors Vision Projects and library staff to deliver this for our community and district.

“Initially the role of the hub staff member will be funded in partnership with the Provincial Growth Fund.”

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little said the hub will offer a free resource where people can book a computer and develop their knowledge and learning.

“This will improve connectivity, knowledge and general wellbeing for Wairoa people.
