Rangatahi into Employment

Improving the skills and employment opportunities for Wairoa’s rangatahi is the drive behind a proactive employment programme.

The Rangatahi into Employment Fund was launched using funding through the Provincial Growth Fund and delivered through the Wairoa Community Partnership Group.

Recently the criteria of the programme has been reset in a bid to help more local rangatahi into employment.

The initiative is focussing on rangatahi aged between 16-25 with funding primarily used to move rangatahi further along their journey to sustained employment.

Wairoa District Council Community Development Officer Austin King is promoting the programme with an active push to work with employers and rangatahi.

Rather than duplicating what is already happening in the district the initiative will look first at programmes, services and funding already in place to support young people into work and complement those supports if needed.

Specific priority will be given to rangatahi who are not currently in employment, education or training. Applicants must be in need of support to access sustained employment opportunities, remain in sustained employment or advance in their current employment.

Potential applicants or employers who would like more information about the programme should contact Austin King on 838 7440.
