Wairoa Mayor Craig Little says his heart goes out to the Muslim community of Christchurch and New Zealand following Friday’s heinous attack.

“I know these sentiments will be reflected by the entire Wairoa community.

“This is the most cowardly act to have ever taken place in New Zealand and has left the people all over the world grief-stricken.

“Muslim people living in New Zealand are a valued part of our country. We have welcomed people from all nations, all religions and all cultures and this one horrific event should not define our country.

“Many of these people have left their homes and families and come to New Zealand for a better way of life.

“My heart goes out to the Muslim community in Christchurch and New Zealand and also to our Wairoa Muslim community.

“On behalf of the entire Wairoa community, I would like to convey our deepest condolences to all the victims of this senseless act of terror and their families.

“This country has no place for bigotry, and we must support our Muslim community and show them we are a united country.

“This attack has not divided our nation, it has, in fact, brought our communities together.

“We just need to look at the Givealittle crowdfunding campaign which is already at over $4 million to see the support that is being shown.
