INTRODUCTION
Stage One of the Wairoa Township River Walkway has been completed thanks to the generous donation of $50,000.00 from the Pam Torbett Charitable Trust. A number of people, both local and visitors have been using it, and there have been many positive comments made.
The aim is to have the second stage to Spooners Point completed before the middle of the year, in time for the Rowing Championships which will be held on the Wairoa River.
There are a number of sites along the walkway which have some historical significance. If you sponsor 35 metres, or more, of walkway, you will be able to choose a site from the Historical Plaques pamphlet, available from the Information Centre. A plaque acknowledging your donation and an explanation of the historical significance of the site will be erected at the appropriate place on the Walkway.
All contributions will be acknowledged by the issue of a Share Certificate and the donor’s name written in a Book of Contributors which will be kept at the Information Centre.
The Wairoa community will be able to watch the walkway contributions grow in “The Wairoa Star”.
