Location: The Wairoa District Council is located on Queen Street, Wairoa, next to Coronation Square Opening Hours:
Monday - Friday: 9am to 4:30pm (Except public holidays and unless otherwise notified.) |
Council staff are about to carry out restoration work in the old Wairoa Cemetery, and would like family involvement where possible. A list has been compiled of people whose graves are without any family contact details in our records. If you know of anyone on the list, or can help us out with updating our records, please get in contact with Nicky Bradley on (06) 838 7309.
Cemeteries of the Wairoa District provide land and facilities for the burial or interment of ashes of the dead and their remembrance and provide records and an enquiry service for all Council- owned cemeteries.
Council staff and contractors work to ensure cemeteries are maintained to a high standard that shows respect for those interred.
Currently, the Senior Clerk carries out the responsibilities equivalent to that of a superintendent, by maintaining the cemetery records in a database (including records for Morere and Frasertown), organising all burial arrangements and handling queries relating to cemeteries within the Wairoa District.
Day-to-day operations and maintenance are carried out by private contractors.
Council owns public cemeteries in the following locations:
| Name of Cemetery | Location |
| Wairoa | Fraser Road |
| Morere | Tunanui Road |
| Frasertown | Russell Parade |
| Nuhaka | SH2, Nuhaka |
| Ruakituri | Papuni Road |
