CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

As the Chief Executive’s contract will expire in February 2009, under the Local Government Act 2002, the Council is required to advertise the position.  We hereby invite applications from suitably qualified candidates.

As Chief Executive you will need to bring visionary strategic leadership, both to Council staff and the community.  Reporting to the Mayor and Council, this role demands an individual who can demonstrate:

  • An ability to build productive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, preferably including some or all of central, regional and local government organisations, business and community groups;
  • A sound understanding of governance relationships, political awareness and an ability to contribute to local government regionally and nationally;
  • Exemplary communication skills and an ability to service an elected or appointed Council;
  • Well-developed management capability including risk and quality assurance experience; and
  • An ability to build productive relationships with Iwi/Whanau/Hapu and a demonstrated understanding of tikanga Maori and the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.

Job Description - Chief Executive Officer


EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICER

The Wairoa District Council seeks the services of a suitably experienced and motivated person to undertake the administration of its Emergency Management activities of Civil Defence and Rural Fire.

Previous Civil Defence and Rural Fire experience is desirable, but not essential. The ability to work well with volunteers and people at all levels of management would be an advantage.

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a working knowledge of emergency management and rural fire legislation;
  • Have experience in the development and delivery of training programmes/packages;
  • Have experience in plan/policy development and implementation;
  • Be conversant with Microsoft Office Suitesl
  • Be prepared to undertake required training to achieve compulsory national standards; and
  • Have, or be willing to attain, a Class 2 Driver’s License.
