The Wairoa Region
Wairoa is a beautiful place - rich in Maori and European history, with a range of wilderness landscapes from mountains to the sea.
It includes rainforest-surrounded Lake Waikaremoana in Te Urewera National Park, the surf and fishing beaches of balmy Mahia Peninsula, the thermal hot springs at Morere, with the sunny , riverside town of Wairoa at its commercial, administrative and population centre.

Hunkered down comfortably on the delta of the Wairoa River, the town of Wairoa is the hub of the Wairoa Region. Public facilities in Wairoa town include major sportsgrounds, public playgounds and recreation reserves - along with a library, excellent swimming pool, a fantastic community centre and Memorial Hall.
Wairoa also has a hospital, seven doctors in private practice, two pharmacies and two dentists. There is one High School, five Primary Schools and four preschools in the town.
There are a range of sporting clubs, including an eighteen hole gold course, a tennis club, an athletics and squash club, rugby clubs, a bowling club, theatre group, a range of different craft groups, a bridge club, an aero club, a water ski club, a rod and gun club, Scouts, a yacht club and two service clubs.
Wairoa has supermarkets, bakery, appliance stores, chemists, bookshops and clothing stores. It is also well services by banks, accountants, solicitors, health and social services.
