Water Supply

Please note that the Engineering Code of Practice is currently being modified.  Once modifications are complete, it will be available online.

The long term focus
for Water Supply is to continue to operate and maintain Council’s water treatment plant at Frasertown in order to provide water, meet growth needs within the supply areas, effectively manage risks associated with public water supply, and minimise health and safety requirements.

In the case of beach side settlements at Mahanga and Mahia population growth, customer expectations and land use management practices may be key drivers in determining the need and/or development of treatment facilities to deliver potable water at some future time.

Demand management methods such as water restrictions will be enforced when necessary.

Council will continue to be involved in the production of potable water to the Wairoa Urban area, Frasertown and Wairoa Peri-Urban communities through the provision of capital development and maintenance of established facilities.

It is Council’s intention to continue to operate the water treatment plant and its associated infrastructure through its in house “Water Production Business Unit”.  This Business Unit is jointly governed by representatives of the Wairoa District Council and AFFCO who represent the largest commercial consumer of potable water produced.

Water storage capacity and reservoir condition are both issues facing the Wairoa urgan community and are likely to require attention within the next 10 years.

For more information relating to Water Supply, you can contact Bill Lewis at Wairoa District Council on (06) 838 7309.
