Sewerage

Please note that the Engineering Code of Practice is currently being modified.  Once modifications are complete, it will be available online.

The long-term focus
for sewerage reticulation and treatment is to continue to maintain Council’s network to Wairoa to meet growth needs within the service area, effectively manage risks associated with the system, and minimise health and safety requirements.

In the case of the beach side settlement at Mahia population growth, customer expectations and land use management practices are key drivers in determining the development of a reticulation network and treatment facility in the near future.

Demand management methods such as stormwater infiltration surveys and corrective actions will be implemented as necessary.

The ongoing maintenance of reticulation networks and treatment facilities in communities with declining population and/or inability to fund those services (e.g. Tuai) will be reviewed and in consultation with those affected communities decisions on appropriate exit strategies and alternative methods of service will be made.

Council will continue to be involved in the provision of services through capital development and maintenance of established viable networks.  All day-to-day maintenance and operational activities will continue to be provided by private sector contractors.
