Coastal Strategy

The Wairoa Coastal Strategy reflects an important stage in the growth of the District and the significant investment of the Community in the Coast. The Strategy will put in place mechanisms to balance social needs and environmental protection against the need for economic development and growth.

The Wairoa Coastal Strategy has been prepared for Wairoa District Council by Beca Planning, a division of Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner Ltd. The adopted copy is the result of extensive public consultation, including nine public meetings/wananga held across the district in September and November 2003.

We trust that you will take interest in the concepts and ideas developed through the strategy for the future of Wairoa's important coast and invite you to make your comments on the Strategy to Council.

To find out more about the Coastal Strategy you can contact the Wairoa District Council on (06) 838 7309. We welcome your thoughts on this important document.

Copies of the Adopted Coastal Strategy are available from Wairoa District Council Offices in Queen Street.

The Adopted Wairoa Coastal Strategy is published in the Adobe Reader format.  You will need to install the Adobe Reader program on your computer in order to read the Plan.  If you do not already have the Adobe Reader installed you can download it from the Adobe website.
