Bylaws
Bylaws are local laws that apply in certain areas. Bylaws made by Territorial Authorities, such as this Council, apply within the District, and Bylaws made by a Regional Council, apply within a Region.
Bylaws are used to regulate certain activities at a local level. This means that Council’s are able to respond to local issues, problems or concerns, in a flexible way.
As required by the Local Government Act 2002, Council must review all existing bylaws by the 1 July 2008. The reviewing of these bylaws has begun to take place, with the development of a consolidated bylaw with Part 1 (Introductory), Part 2 (Land Transport) and Part 3 (Public Safety) being consulted on with the community early 2007, and subsequently adopted in November 2007.
Over the coming months a series of other parts will be presented for consultation.
