(a)  A sheet backing system fixed directly to framing with plaster and paint finish.

(b)  Perforated steel or wire netting reinforcing fixed directly to framing with plaster and paint finish(unsupported).

(c)  Perforated steel or wire netting reinforcing fixed directly to framing over a board backing with plaster and paint finish(unsupported).

To obtain a Code Compliance Certificate

1.  The Exterior cladding must be a “recognised system”.

2.  A “recognised system” is a complete cladding system including all component parts with testing and certification having been completed by a recognised Telarc (or similar) registered laboratory.

3.  The “system” could be accepted on the basis of an alternative solution to the Building Code. Territorial Authorities have the discretion to either accept or refuse an alternative solution.

4.  At the time of inspection, the Building Officer must be able to observe:

  • Jointing e.g. construction, sheets, expansion/contraction, seismic and between different claddings.
  • Flashings around openings including parapets and deck safety barrier junctions.
  • Flashings at wall/roof junctions.
  • Flashings between different wall claddings.
  • Ventilation of any space between the back of the cladding and the building frame of a cavity system.
  • Sealing around penetrations such as pipes, wiring and barrier fixing.

A producer statement on completion from an approved applicator of the “recognised system” to be provided prior to the issue of a code compliance certificate.

Provision to be made to allow water to escape in the event that the cladding system should leak. This is to stop water  from entering the framing and allow any water caught in the cavity to drain to the outside. Vermin proofing also needs to be provided.

Wall framing is to comply with the requirements of NZS 3602 - NZ Standard for timber and wood based products for use in building.  “Click here” to view a pdf version of the standard.

All external framing to meet the requirements of NZS3602:2003 - "Timber and Wood-Based products for use in a Building".

ADDITIONAL INSPECTIONS WILL BE REQUIRED TO INSPECT FLASHINGS, CAVITY BATTENS, CONTROL JOINTS ETC.

A PRODUCER STATEMENT CANNOT TAKE THE PLACE OF THESE INSPECTIONS.
