In this New Zealand-wide competition, towns and cities compete for the title of Cycle Mad City, by getting as many local people and celebrities as possible to follow the mayor on a fun bike ride. Every participant earns one point for their town, and celebrities are worth ten bonus points each.

EVENT DETAILS

City/town: Wairoa

When: 10am – 12noon, Saturday, 20 February 2010. (10-10:45am registration, 10:45am bike ride, 11:45 celebration).

Where will the ride start and finish: The ride will start outside the Wairoa Community Centre and finish with a celebration at Alexandra Park (beside the Wairoa Community Centre).

Small course: start at the Community Centre goes to the Yacht Club (water stop).

Extended course: continue from Yacht Club to Pilot Hill Reserve (park at the bottom of Pilot Hill) turn around pick up folk at Yacht Club and return to the Wairoa Community Centre.

What's happening: “YRIDE YNOT? Wairoa Mayoral Challenge 2010”. Help WAIROA win this National Competition. Let’s Get Behind Les - Come along with family for a fun bike ride through our town with our Mayor Les Probert. Suitable for riders of all ages and abilities. The ride will start outside the Wairoa Community Centre and finish with a celebration at Alexandra Park (beside the Wairoa Community Centre).

Loads of spot prizes on the day. One lucky cyclist will win a free AVANTI bike – lucky number draw!

FREE: Entry, bike & helmet checks, snack bars, face-painting, sausage sizzle and after ride swim at the Wairoa Community Centre for cyclists.

THEME: “Celebrities” - so if you like you can come dressed as your favourite “Celebrity” e.g. Elvis Presley, Paris Hilton, Lady Gaga, etc. This is optional. There will be spot prizes for the best fancy dress!

You can also decorate your bike for the event.
