Drumming up top sounds for a great cause is the drive behind a concert planned to raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation next month.
Wairoa Talent will showcase local acts ranging from the silky tones of soloist songbirds to some heady blues beats in a five hour spectacular at the War Memorial Hall on Saturday, September 18.
Billing includes The Write Price Band, The Wairoa Blues Band, Susan Rose, Laura Parkes, Koastline, Heart ‘n’ Soul, Too Much Cuz, RDY2ROK, BLOWN AWAY and Kootz.
Putting the event together has been a collaborative effort between main sponsors Write Price Food Barn, and supporters Wairoa District Council and Total Soundz.
The purpose of the event is to make a contribution to the Child Cancer Foundation - a not-for-profit organisation that provides emotional, practical and financial support to children with cancer, their families and the health professionals who care for them.
Every year approximately 150 children are diagnosed with child cancer in New Zealand and at any one time the Foundation supports up to 900 families across New Zealand.
The Foundation provides families with a Family Support Worker who supports the child and family throughout their experience with cancer, as well as financial assistance in a variety of forms including transportation and accommodation for children receiving treatment and visiting family members.
Organising parent support groups, education initiatives and scholarships to assist children with cancer and their siblings, and arranging access to holiday homes to allow families to spend time together are also undertaken by the Foundation.
It is hoped this concert will generate a significant amount of money for the organization, as well as providing some great entertainment for the community.
This is a family friendly event, with doors opening at 3.30pm for a 4pm start. Refreshments will be available for purchase to keep the hunger pangs at bay.
Tickets are available from Write Price or at the door, $10 for adults and $5 for children (12 and under). There are only 400 tickets available, so purchase early to avoid disappointment.
