You need a Plumbing and Drainage Consent for all plumbing and drainage work.

How do I apply?
You will need to complete a Building Consent Application Form.

The Building Consent application is published in the Adobe Reader format.  You will need to install the Adobe Reader program on your computer in order to read them.  If you do not already have the Adobe Reader installed you can download it from the Adobe website.

To make an application for Building Consent, you must provide the following information to show that your proposed work will comply with the NZ Building Code.

• Two copies of your drawings showing plans, sections, elevations and all construction details of the work you propose to carry out. Your drawings must show all timber sizes and all fixings and details to show that the work will comply with the Building Code.
• Two copies of the bracing calculations for the foundation of your new building and two copies of the bracing calculations for each floor level above the foundations.
• Two copies of a brief specification including all materials to be used in the new construction.  This information may be written notes on the plans, elevations and sections.
• Two copies of a Site Plan showing the relationship between the new work you intend to carry out and any other buildings on the site.  Your site plan must show the location of any water and sewerage connections to existing services or the positions of any new or existing septic tanks and water tanks.
• One completed Application for Building Consent form.
• Wairoa District Council Consent Deposit inclusive of GST, minimum deposit of $150.

The government levies and Wairoa District Council deposit to be paid with the application are calculated on the following basis:

• BRANZ Levy .1% of the value of the work when the value, including GST exceeds $20,000.
• Departmenr of Building and Housing, 0.197% of the value of the work when the value, including GST, exceeds $20,000.
• Wairoa District Council Consent Deposit 1% of the work, inclusive of GST, minimum deposit $150.

If you provide all of this information with your application, your Consent will be issued within 20 working days and then you will be able to carry out your intended building work in accordance with the Building Act 2004.

If any of this information is missing, your application cannot be processed and the 20-day period will be held up until YOU provide the information that is required.
